The Beginning

My name is Karla Rocha, founder of Brazilian Pastries.

Long before Brazilian Pastries became a business, it was part of my family's story.

Growing up in Brasília, Brazil, I watched my mother transform her passion for cooking into beautifully handcrafted pastries and savoury delicacies for weddings, celebrations, and special occasions. Working from her own kitchen, she prepared each order with remarkable care, supplying both individual customers and events. As a child, I spent countless hours by her side, learning not only traditional Brazilian recipes but also the values that define exceptional food: dedication, consistency, attention to detail, and genuine care for every customer.

In our home, every new recipe was prepared with passion, every successful event was celebrated, and every satisfied customer reinforced the importance of delivering excellence. Those experiences shaped my understanding that food has the power to bring people together, create lasting memories, and express love in a way that words often cannot.

As life unfolded, my journey took me in different directions. I completed my education, built my family, and eventually immigrated to Canada in search of new opportunities. Like many newcomers, I embraced the challenge of building a new life while adapting to a different culture and language.

Yet one thing never changed: my connection to Brazilian cuisine.

Living in Ottawa, I often found myself missing the flavours, traditions, and warmth of home. Preparing the recipes I had learned from my mother became much more than cooking—it became a way of preserving my roots and sharing a part of Brazil with family, friends, and neighbours.

What began around our own dining table soon reached far beyond it.

Friends from many different cultural backgrounds fell in love with the authentic flavours and encouraged me to begin selling the products. Our very first production sold out in a single day. That moment revealed something much bigger than we had imagined: there was a genuine demand for authentic, premium Brazilian food in Ottawa.

Brazilian Pastries was born from that realization.

Today, Brazilian Pastries has become a trusted local brand, serving families, businesses, and communities across Ottawa through online orders, catering, takeout, and delivery.

Our vision extends far beyond preparing exceptional food. We are building a brand that celebrates Brazilian culture through premium products, genuine hospitality, and unforgettable customer experiences. As we continue to grow, our goal is to establish Brazilian Pastries as Ottawa's premier destination for authentic Brazilian pastries, desserts, coffee, and specialty foods, creating a place where people can discover, experience, and celebrate the richness of Brazilian gastronomy.
